This has been a busy week! Dh is still getting into a rhythm with his new job. My youngest son turned 9 on Wednesday, so the beginning of the week was filled with making his birthday cake, wrapping presents, buying groceries, taking cupcakes & juice up to his class, cleaning the house, blah blah blah. The end of the week, I am working. Thursday through Saturday. Yuck.

I have been working away at my sockapalooza socks. Last time I posted, on Monday, I had gotten 1.5 repeats into the pattern (this was after frogging that no less than 2 times). Monday night I got 2 repeats into the pattern and found a mistake I had made. I tried tinking back but got lost in undoing the cables (I am a pro at this now lol). I ended up ripping out the whole thing. Not just that once, but two more times.

I am now convinced that the L&V yarn does indeed hold up quite well to frogging lol. It is just WONDERFUL to work with. I am in love with this yarn. I need to get a second job to pay for my habit now.

Back to the progress. Since Wednesday I have been plugging away at it. I am now past the leg, turned the heel and am working my way down the foot. The pattern is intended for dpns, but I really do prefer working with one circ. With dpns, I am constantly getting ladders, no matter how I tighten, turn, twist, whatever…they still appear. With circs, I do not get them. I did have to switch to dpns to do the heel flap. (and nearly got a ladder on the bottom of the heel in the process!) I promptly switched back to my one circ as soon as I had picked up all the gusset stitches. It’s fitting right in with Project Spectrum’s April/May colors Green, Yellow, Pink too.

It wouldn’t be a blog post by me without progress pictures ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is a closeup of the cable pattern:

And the sock on my foot. Lucky me, my partner has nearly the same size foot as I do ๐Ÿ™‚

And a closeup of the heel. I really like the way this turned out. Even though I had to use dpns to do it lol:

I predict that sock #1 will be done before the weekend is out. There’s lot of knit friendly activities planned for this weekend (around working, of course). Saturday night we are going to the drive in. I will knit on the sock before the sun goes down, then switch to something simplier for knitting in the dark (no lit needles for me). Sunday night is the Coca-Cola 600 so I will be knitting furiously while watching my favorite drivers. I have the entire Monday off and the weather will be perfect for sitting in my backyard knitting while the kids play themselves silly.

I’m also still working on the All Season Shell. I finally got more yarn to finish it up. It’s hard to go back to it while working on the Sockapalooza socks because they are so fun and the A/S/S ๐Ÿ˜† is so boring with it’s k2p2 over & over. I also have my felted bag to finish, got more yarn for that too.

Oh! A really good book, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, about a boy growing up in Afghanistan pre-Russia/Taliban invasion, who escapes to America but still can’t escape his past. Very good book. I finished it in 3 days, only reading at bedtime and staying up WAAAY too late to do so.

Now if only there were more hours in the day…..

Got my grades for the semester. Three B’s and one A. I will take it!! I feel kind of bad because the three that I got B’s in, I really did not apply myself as much as I know I could have. With two of them it was hard because I found out mid-semester that I did not even need them. It’s really hard to get motivated to get an A in a class you don’t even need and are paying for for nothing. Blah.

I have three months of FREEDOM until it starts all over again. Do you know how much knitting I can get done in three months ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I finally snagged dd long enough to snap a picture of her new socks. These socks went very quickly. I used US size 3 dpns and . Sock #1 was started last Thursday & finished last Friday. Sock #2 was started this past Tuesday & finished on Wednesday. Two socks in two days…not bad considering dd has ladies size 10.5 feet!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

She was home sick yesterday so I managed to snag a picture of the illusive teenager. Well, at least a picture of her socked feet

And they are TWINS!!! I used almost two whole skeins of yarn for Miss Big Foot. I don’t think there’s even enough left to make ONE baby sock lol. The best part? She’s wearing them to school today ๐Ÿ˜€

Last week my first Lime & Violet order came. Squee!! Shipping was super fast, and included in the yummy yarn package was a HUGE orange gumball and cute little stickers. It’s so soft & squooshy & sproingy I’m thinking I want to attempt a Cookie A. pattern with this yarn. Oh yes, I will learn how to read charts by the end of the summer ๐Ÿ˜† Here is my Friday Yarn 0Pr0n contribution. Miss Violet’s Vampyre “M Class”:

I’m still plugging away at the Waves & Shells shawl. I think maybe 1-2 more pattern repeats (32 rows) plus the border (4 rows) and I’ll be ready to bind off. All done, I think it’s going to be close to 60″ long. Not bad ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m also getting ready to cast on sock #2 of the pair that was supposed to be for my mom but ended up being too tight so now they are for my youngest dd. As soon as those are done (on size 1 circ) I’ll cast on another pair for mom. This time doing the foot with a size 2 circ and the heel & leg with size 3 circ. Hopefully that will do the trick.

I have decided on my Sockapalooza pattern. I’m going with the Cider Moon Saucy pattern. I ordered the yarn earlier this week. I’ll reveal that as soon as it gets here ๐Ÿ™‚

Yesterday I finished a really good book. Moloka’i by Alan Brennert. It was VERY good! About a little Hawaiian girl who gets sent away to a leper colony. Sad, uplifting, inspiring, and eye-opening. Definitely a good read.

I am LYS deprived. We have a Michaels and a Joannes, but no real craft store. There have been craft stores, but most of them have closed before I even became a knitter or before I knew they existed. Three that I know of.

Including the one that I just found. It’s about 40 minutes from my house, so kind of a drive. And not really a real yarn store. It’s more like a yarn corner stuck in the back of a gift shop. But they have real stuff…Collinette (no sock yarn though), Artyarns, Cascade, handspun/handpainted wool/silk blend that is so soft it feels like buttah….

The first time I went there was last week. We walked in and dh pointed out a sign that said “50% off all yarns, books, patterns, and needles”. I didn’t think anything beyond…OH GOODY!! I behaved though. I only bought two skeins of Cascade (for $7!!). At the register I asked, do you get much sock yarn in. They said we are sold out of sock yarn and in fact we are selling out of all of our yarn, we don’t plan on restocking it. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Wahhhh!!!! I was like, Noooooooooo!!! I just found you!!!! *sob*

So today we went back. Dh let me have my way with the little yarn corner (seriously, my bathroom is bigger than that corner) as my Mother’s Day present (this means I’ll have to by myself the Zenstring I pined over a few weeks ago ๐Ÿ˜† ). For $70 I got all this:

There are three skeins of Patons Divine, perfect for my Project of the Month shawl.

Three skeins of Steadfast Fibers Wonderful Wool in “Columbine” (another shawl).

Four skeins of Artyarns Ultramerino 4 that will be perfect for baby socks.

Two skeins of Crystal Palace Fjord in “Rose Petal”, no project in mind yet.

A Patons SWS pattern booklet and size 15 Crystal Palace bamboo circular needles.

ALL 50% OFF!! Woot!! Check out these colors:

My favorite is the middle one, Artyarns…yummy greens & pinks, & yellows. Perfect for Project Spectrum

As promised, here are a few of the sets of stitchmarkers I made a few weeks ago:

Next time, an updated (w/ pic) of dd’s sock #1

I’m feeling the itch to buy more yarn. I’m smothering that itch. Coincidentally, I always get this itch while listening to Lime & Violet ๐Ÿ˜† Imagine that!

Must….Resist….The Yarn…..

**deep breath**

I have been knitting, I just haven’t had the time nor the motivation to take pictures. Thought I’d give the picture loading a break. I have finished booga bag #4, it’s in the washer right now. Amazingly enough, I only have ONE project on my needles!! Mom’s Mother’s Day Socks! I am sooo itching to start something else, but I’m resisting that too. Jeesh, I’m depriving myself alot this week. I’m hoping dh listened and will buy me that Zen String Serendipity Sport for Mother’s Day ๐Ÿ˜€

My Knitter’s Treat Exchange package is just about ready to be shipped. It definitely will go out by the end of this week. Saturday at the latest. I can’t wait to spoil my partner!!

I’m thinking I’m going to tackle the Victorian Punk Sleeves next. Just for a change from socks, bags, & blankets. There’s also another felted purse in my One Skein Wonders book that I want to attempt. Not to mention the felted bags from a book my professor lent me. I want to try my hand at entrelac with this really neat bag. It would make great use of all my wool scraps. See, I’m using up some stash.

I still itch to buy more yarn. I really should stop browsing Etsy shops ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I just can’t believe how addictive (and fun, and quick) these are to knit! I started this one about a week ago and to be honest, I probably could have had it done over the weekend…but I didn’t pick it up AT ALL between Saturday and Tuesday. I was working on the darned blanket.

I used Patons Classic Wool in Black and Winter White and size 10.5 bamboo circular needles (dpns for the i-cord).

Here it is pre-felted (with my 30g video iPod for comparison):

And here it is felted (again, with the same iPod):

I finally got mail! In this house, hubby is always the one who gets mail and packages. I get junk mail and bills lol. Today I got not one, not two, but THREE packages!! “Big Book of Knitting” from Annie. Huge thank you! That was wicked fast! Be on the look out for a thank-you package ๐Ÿ˜‰
Also in the mail today was something for my Knitter’s Treat Exchange partner. I just need to get one or two more things this weekend and hopefully be sending it out sometime next week.
Sometime last week I was having a really bad day. My computer program wasn’t working the way I wanted to, my kids were being butts, it was cold and not very spring-like…so I had a little retail therapy ๐Ÿ˜ฎ and this is what I bought:

Artyarns Ultramerino 8, color 123. I swear the picture doesn’t do it justice. It’s a wee bit brighter and oh so soft (rubbing it on my cheek as I type..). Here is a close-up:

And also this:

Artyarns Supermerino, color 107. Again, way brighter in person than the picture suggests and it’s almost as soft as the ultra merino. No ideas as to what I will do with them. Right now, I’m just satisfied with petting them ๐Ÿ™‚ Both were purchased at Sarah’s Yarns. Fantastic service, super fast shipping. I ordered on April 16th and opted for parcel post shipping. It arrived today, the same time as another order from another online store (can’t say, it’s for my Knitter’s Treat partner) from whom I ordered on April 12th!! And that’s all I have to say about that ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here’s a close-up of the supermerino:

Now I’m off to fix that pesky computer program once and for all dang it!

I got it!!! Finally my Borders has stocked the new Yarn Harlot book:

Whoo hoo!! We took the kids shopping to spend their Easter money and of course we had to make a stop at the bookstore ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m so glad I let them drag me out (kicking & screaming) to the mall.

While we were out, there was this strange yellow orb in the sky. I think it may have been the sun, but it’s been so long since the sun shown it’s face around here…I’m not sure. What do you think? Is this the elusive sun?

While we were out & about I did a tiny bit more shopping for my Knitters Treat Exchange partner ๐Ÿ™‚

Did everyone see the Yarn Harlot on Knitty Gritty yesterday? It was fantabulous! AND I learned what I was doing wrong with my SSKs!

I’ve cast on for mom’s socks. I think I will give them to her for Mother’s Day ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m using Toe-Up Chevron Socks. I’m modifying it slightly so I can do it on one circ instead of dpns. I’m making them with the yarn I got when I hit the motherload Moda Dea Sassy Stripes in Crayon. This color is a bit more vibrant than the skeins that I used for my socks. I think she’ll like them ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope to have the third Booga bag finished knitting tonight. Hopefully the i-cord too so I can felt it then set it up to dry overnight. If I go very fast it will be done…

A bunch of slightly disjointed thoughts, to go with my disjointed week.

First of all, here is a Coffee Cup cloth that I made earlier this year and just hadn’t gotten a picture of yet. The pattern is here.

And the Ice Cream Cozy that I made a while back. Who likes to get cold hands while enjoying their Ben & Jerry’s? Not me! I just made it up as I went along.

In honor of Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day (hurry, it’s only until 8pm!). This is the banana split flavor. I haven’t tried it yet. I really wanted their limited edition Apple Pie flavor (soooo gooodd!!!) but I couldn’t find anymore ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Too limited if you ask me!

Even though I have been busier than a heck I’ve still been knitting (tis how I keep my sanity!). I’ve been working on another booga bag:

I’ve also been plugging away at that darned baby blanket. Here is my progress so far. I’m still in the 100s as far as how many rows I have left to go WaaaahhH!! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I really like the colors though. They remind me of cartoon frogs or something lol. I hereby promise to have this damn thing done by the end of the month (of April).

I’ve also given up on the All Season Shell. I HATE the yarn I was using (TLC Cotton Plus). I loved it when I did dh’s Baseball sweater, but this batch must be just awful. It’s splitty, full of knots and the skeins are just FULL of yarn vomit. Arg! I actually threw a whole skein away because it was just one big knotted mess in the middle. Bah!

My oldest dd has been doing some experimental knitting. She’s attempting dpns!!! Making herself the Squipod iPod Cozy for her Nano. She has a bit of start-itis though. She casts on gets quite far into the project then decides she doesn’t like it or it’s too hard or too boring so she frogs it. She knits A LOT and has very little to show for it lol. Hopefully it’s a phase and she’ll eventually make something and finish it ๐Ÿ˜›

I joined Sockapalooza 4 I am sooo excited about this! Nothing like another knit exchange to feed my sock addiction.

Speaking of my sock addiction. I’ve told hubby that I want this for Mother’s Day. I spent most of the day drooling or trying to pet it through the screen. Aren’t I pitiful?
pet the pretty yarn

I also tried my hand at homemade sock blockers, although I still don’t see the point in blocking socks for anything other than taking pictures of the socks. And even then, I’d rather see a sock (or two) on a foot (real or mannequin). I don’t think it was too successful. I broke the hanger part of one of them. The other one looks like a deformed foot.

I did a little shopping this week. Found not one but TWO issues of Simply Knitting at my Borders. One of these days I will break down and just get a subscription. But knowing my luck, Borders would have them before I got mine in my mailbox and I would end up with two copies every month ๐Ÿ˜† I did some MORE shopping for my Knitters Exchange partner. And I heard from my partner too. I’m so excited about this exchange stuff ๐Ÿ˜€

Exams have been taken (three anyway, the fourth has been post-poned until next Monday because of last Monday’s storm). I had the YUCKIEST start to my Monday. I was all set to complain & blog about it (I’ve had an idea draft saved adding all the stuff I wanted to blog about all week but didn’t have time) until I came home and saw the news of the Virginia Tech shootings. In perspective, my day wasn’t so bad. Makes me want to grab my children and never let them out of the house!!

The kids & I went to the library today. They finally had a bunch of knitting books that were written later than 1970! Two that I wanted were checked out (one of them overdue, scofflaws!!!) but I did get Cables Untangled. It just solidifies that I WANT that book lol. I hadn’t wanted to shell out the $$$ to get it, but after seeing it at the library, it’s definitely worth it. After I get the Yarn Harlot’s new book…which STILL isn’t stocked at my Borders. Stupid bookstore.

My oldest daughter and myself are both avid readers. We both find it hard to choose between knitting or reading. So while at the library, we picked up some books on CD to listen to while we knit ๐Ÿ˜€

In household news, we got a new fence!!

It’s true what they say….fences do make the best neighbors ๐Ÿ˜€

Did anyone else get hit with Winter’s Last Blast on Monday? We got about 8″ of heavy wet snow and my classes were cancelled for Monday (the kids are out on Spring Break). It’s almost all melted already. My poor tulips & daffodils are soo confused!!
